How to play
Enter the participants
Type one name per line in the text field. Paste directly from a spreadsheet or email if you already have the list ready: no special formatting required.
Choose the number of teams
Enter how many teams you want to form. The tool distributes members evenly and handles remainders automatically when the numbers don't divide equally.
Run the draw
Press Generate: the algorithm shuffles the list randomly and distributes names into balanced groups. Result is instant, no debate needed.
Display or share the result
Teams appear immediately. Project the screen or copy the result to share with the group: no account or sign-up required.
When and why
Sports and tournaments
Split 20 players into 4 teams of 5 without endless debate. Everyone accepts the result because luck, not a person, made the call.
Group work in class
Draw groups for a presentation or project: no more friend clusters or lopsided teams. The teacher stays neutral thanks to the random draw.
Company workshops and seminars
Mix departments or seniority levels in seconds. Random composition creates unexpected synergies and breaks habitual groupings.
Teams mode on the main wheel
The full-page equivalent on Wheelo, Teams mode presents the draw as an animated visual wheel: perfect for projecting the split with flair at an event.
Tips, variants & rules
Uneven team sizes
When the participant count doesn't divide exactly, the tool distributes the remainder fairly: some teams get N members, others N+1. No favouritism.
Re-draw without ceremony
Draws are instant: if luck stacked all the strongest players on one side, re-roll in one click. Nobody can accuse anyone of having arranged the groups.
Pick a team captain
Once teams are set, use the random number generator (1 to N team members) to randomly designate the captain for each group.
Save teams before closing
Copy the result before re-drawing or closing the page: the tool doesn't store previous draws. A quick paste into a message or doc is all you need.
Frequently asked questions
Can teams have different sizes?
Yes. When the participant count isn't an exact multiple of the team count, the tool distributes the remainder by adding one extra member to some teams.
Can I lock constraints: keep certain players together or apart?
Not in this tool. For constrained grouping, set fixed pairs by hand and let the tool handle only the remaining participants.
What's the difference from the Teams mode on the main wheel?
Functionally the same at heart. The main wheel's Teams mode presents the draw as an animated visual wheel: ideal for projecting at an event. This tool is faster for everyday use.
Is there a participant limit?
No significant technical limit. The tool handles lists of several hundred names without issue: great for large classes or major tournaments.
